MEMORIZE: And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents. Genesis 13:5
BIBLE READING GENESIS 14:14-16
14. And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.
15. And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.
16. And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.
MESSAGE
Yesterday we started discussing the subject of dominion and we discovered that it was bestowed upon man at creation but he traded it for the forbidden fruit.
Jesus however, came to redeem man and restore dominion unto all those who believe in Him. We will continue with our study today by considering dominion by association – that is, a person can have dominion if the fellow is associated with a powerful personality.
An adage in my mother tongue says that a dog can kill a monkey if the dog has the backing of the hunter. In our memory verse today we see Lot having dominion over poverty because of his association with the friend of God – Abraham.
However, he lost the dominion when he departed from Abraham in Genesis 13:1-18 After a while, when Lot had cut off his association with Abraham, the Bible says that the city in which Lot was living was invaded and because Lot had separated himself from the friend of God, he became a victim of the invasion.
Had it not been for the mercy of God and the love of his uncle, he wouldn’t have regained his freedom as we read in todays text. The Bible says: “And he (Abraham) brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people. – Genesis 14:16.”
Who we associate with goes a long way in determining our experiences in life. Proverbs 13:20 says “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.”
Beloved, may I recommend Someone you can associate yourself with for everlasting dominion? His name is Jesus. The Bible says that His dominion is everlasting. (Psalms 145:13) Why live your life in one form of captivity or the other, when you can operate in dominion over every situation, circumstance, and mountain? Come to Jesus today and have everlasting dominion.
PRAYER POINT
Father, please give me everlasting dominion over sin, Satan and the works of the flesh, in the mighty name of Jesus.
BIBLE READING IN ONE YEAR: 1 SAMUEL 9:1-27, 1 SAMUEL 10:1-27, 1 SAMUEL 11:1-15
HYMN: WE ARE NEVER, NEVER WEARY OF THE GRAND OLD SONG
1. We are never, never weary
of the grand old song,
Glory to God, Hallelujah!
We can sing it loud as ever,
with our faith more strong,
Glory to God, Halleluyah!
2. We are lost amid the rapture
of redeeming love,
Glory to God, Halleluyah!
We are rising on its pinions
to the hills above,
Glory to God, Halleluyah!
3. We are going to a palace
that is built of gold,
Glory to God, Halleluyah!
Where the King in all His
splendour we shall soon behold,
Glory to God, Halleluyah!
CHORUS:
O, the children of the Lord have
right to shout and to sing,
For the way Is growing bright,
and our souls are on the wings,
We are going by and by
to the palace of the King,
Glory to God Halleluyah.
4. There we’ll shout redeeming
mercy in a glad new song,
Glory to God, Halleluyah!
There we’ll sing the praise of
Jesus with the blood washed throng,
Glory to God, Halleluyah!
